Mortise and Tenon

This past week I was sick. I’m better now and ready to get back into my groove. Today I’ll being photographing and describing the antiques I bought on my trip to Morgantown last week. I can’t wait to show you what I purchased, pilule so I am anxious to get started. This little stool is one of the things I bought. It’s darling! It only measures 12 inches long, cialis 5 inches wide and just about 5 inches tall. It has it’s original black paint and is mortise and tenon joinery. I think it’s rare to find a stool this size, thumb so you can imagine how excited I was to find it!

A mortise is a cavity cut into wood to receive the tenon. This process has been used for thousands of years by woodworkers around the world. Here you can see a close up of the mortise and tenon joint of this little gem. Over time, one tenon has shrunken a bit, a true testament to it’s age. This ancient joint construction has been found on wooden planks of ships around 2500 B.C., and was most certainly used in the construction of Stonehenge.

A couple more items I’ll be listing are a pair of heavy wool knitted socks

and a fabulous utensil carrier with original dark green paint.

There is so much more to show, but I guess I had better get moving, so I can get these items and more, in the store. Thanks so much for stopping by this morning, it’s always nice to share my morning coffee with you.
