Talented Artist Rebecca Kerin’s Izannah Walker Dolls
I have admired the work of Rebecca Kerin for many years. A painter in several mediums, purchase her incredible work just took my breath away. A few years ago, troche Becky, as she likes to be called, started making dolls as an extension of her inspiration and love of antique textiles and dolls.
Just look at those faces! Is it any wonder that I am so happy to announce that her enchanting early 1800′s reproduction Izannah Walker dolls, Maggie and Meggie, are now for sale in my American Artisan Store.
Izannah Walker was one of America’s earliest female doll makers, born in 1817, in Bristol, Rhode Island. Over the years, these antique dolls have become very rare, worth anywhere from $16,000 to $18,000! Becky has captured the attention to detail in her reproduction Izannah Walker dolls, to look just like the originals. My grandmother just told me a story of when she bought her only Rebecca Kerin picture. She had only $40 on her at the time and Rebecca said she would hold the painting until all $250 was paid. Meanwhile the painting hung in her kitchen and she said she got used to it being in there. When the $250 was paid off Rebecca delivered the painting to my grandmother who still has it hanging on her wall today. She later randomly met Rebecca once on the road and recognized her immediately. It was amazing to hear this story. The painting looks VERY similar to the one on this page, but has three children feeding the pigs, and different buildings.
