Childhood Memories

Good morning. It’s a glorious day in Wilmington, nurse DE. I can feel Fall in the air already, view and the sounds of the crows give me such a good feeling. Yesterday I jumped in my car and drove through the countryside. What a great time I had. It’s been way to long since I have done this. Ususally, ampoule every Summer I have lots of photos that I have taken of all my favorite things and travels through the winding roads, but this Summer was different. This Summer I have not been home much. I am now, but Saturday I will return to the beach again, to be with my honey. I just had to show you these figurines. Do you remember these?

When I saw them I couldn’t resist buying them for my new cottage store, that hopefully, will be opening soon. They brought back such wonderful childhood memories. For those of you too young to remember, these chalkware figurines were given out as prizes on the boardwalk, in the late 40′s, early 50′s. When I was a little, when my parents would take my brother and I to Wildwood, NJ, for a Summer vacation at the beach. At the end of the day, after we had our dinner, we looked so forward to going to the boardwalk. There were booths where you would throw balls and knock down pins. There were ring tosses, a man that would guess your weight for a prize. I remember the machine with the gypsy inside, not real of course. You put a coin, and out came a little rolled paper telling you your fortune. All kinds of things you could do to win a prize. I loved these. The gawdier the better! The more glitter, the more I loved it. This rooster still has some glitter on him! The little cat is a bank. I loved these pieces and have not thought about them in years! Oh, the memories they brought back to me. Every once in a while I take another look at them. I pick them up and the memories just flow. I know they’re tacky, but they’re tacky and fun. What great pieces for the vintage or cottege home! I have to go now. Much to do before I get ready to go to my girlfriend’s house. Carole is having the girls over for some lunch and a little chit chat. I am so looking forward to seeing my friends today, and Carole always has such good food. Yup, I’ll bring my camera. So, tootles.
Happy day
Carole

I have’nt been home much this summer myself.
Those chalkware peices are so sweet and would look perfect
in a cottage decor. I must admit I have a few myself!
Enjoy your lunch with friends! :-)
    Smiles,
    Nan
